The Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi is unlikely to bring a parade of bureaucrats from his home state of Gujarat to New Delhi.
Contrary to the perception that the former Gujarat chief minister will bring his bureaucratic team with him to help him run the new national government, it is understood that no more than three or four such mandarins will accompany him to New Delhi.
This is because Modi does not wish to suddenly create a bureaucratic vacuum in Gujarat, the development of which he has used as part of his campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.
The new Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel is his nominee and he does not wish to handicap her with such a vacuum.
Further, it is also understood that this is in keeping with Modi’s policy of trying to work with the existing bureaucratic setup in New Delhi, before he decides to fire anyone.
