South Block spooked by Maruti 800s

Mandarins in charge of security at the sensitive South Block, which houses the defence ministry, external affairs ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office are concerned about the reported thefts of vehicles from the parking lot of the DHQ (Defence Headquarters) Security Zone, bearing high security access stickers.

Sources have told Delhi Durbarthat the risk factors include the absence of security devices in vehicles and carelessness with respect to proper securing of vehicles.

Officials have especially noted the frequency of thefts of the ubiquitous Maruti 800, which they further noted is considered easier to lift.

Advisories have been issued asking vehicle owners to install suitable security devices, which has been especially emphasised for owners of the popular Maruti 800, a car that has recently gone out of production after many years of dominating Indian roads, coming after the old Ambassador and Premier Padmini models.
